Having visited pretty much every country in the world, Johnny wants to help show others than traveling the world can mean more than sights on a tourist hit list. Getting to see the world, while giving something back is a beautiful concept and the GiveBackGiveAway is our answer to that. Johnny blogs about travel, life and biz at OneStep4Ward.com
Travelling to over 50 countries, Josh thought it was time to giving something back, and co-founded GiveBackGiveAway accordingly. Working in tourism on nearly every continent he’s had the opportunity to take people on life-changing trips, to experience travel like never before. Josh also blogs about his travels at SmallWorldTravels.com
Carl moved to Asia in 2008 to volunteer in refugee camps on the Thai-Burma border. In 2012, Carl started working for the University of Hong Kong running programmes in Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar. In his free time he continues his charitable work, such as setting up schools in refugee camps on the Thai-Burma border.
Jordan is a YouTube Travel vlogger who has been travelling the world continuously for the past 2 years. Motivated by showing people how incredible (and affordable) travelling is, he will be showcasing the GiveBackGiveAway on his YouTube channel – enabling you to see how your donations are changing lives!
Do you know that call you make and say “Houston, we have a problem”? – Aghosh is the guy who takes that call. Aghosh provides tech support for the team while they are in the field and is currently running out of things to say about himself.
Josh and Johnny, the co-founders of the GiveBack GiveAway have traveled to over 20 countries together. Having seen both the good and bad in the world, from the friendliness and good nature of locals to the vast disparity of wealth they figured it was time for them to ‘give back’. For a decade both Josh and Johnny have been traveling almost full-time, travel has given them more than they could have dreamed, so now it was time to repay the favour. Overlanding from Nigeria to Morocco in West Africa, the guys hatched the plan to leverage social media to fund local projects in Senegal and the Gambia in 2015, giving someone the chance to win a life-changing trip to witness the good that even the smallest of donations can cause. Josh, a tour guide, and Johnny, a blogger, managed to combine their strengths and create a trip that would both ‘give back’ to local communities but also prove to be a life-changing adventure for anyone who would take the plunge and travel with them. Senegal and the Gambia in 2015, Cambodia in 2016 and Northern Thailand in 2017, the GiveBack GiveAway has grown, finding a niche where people don’t only want to serve themselves as they experience the world, they want to help. And so do we. So we explore, we backpack, we have fun, and we work on meaningful projects with a lasting effect, and we hope you guys can join us sooner rather than later!
For starters, a lot. GiveBack GiveAway trips are for people that want to have a crazy adventure but also do something meaningful.
GiveBack GiveAway trips are all about high impact projects with a small group of people that assemble, construct and complete projects in a short amount of time. It’s hard to explain but watch what some of our travellers thought about it. After that we responsibly explore and enjoy the country to soak up every amazing experience it has to offer.
GiveBack we don’t enter areas for a quick photo op and move on. High impact, make a difference, and then off to explore the region. Boom.
It’s as easy as making a donation and sticking your name to it.
90% of your donations goes into the project. 10% of it goes into taking the winner on the trip. 0% goes to admin, banking or any other lame type of fees.
The GiveBackGiveAway exists for people who love to travel! We know we’re fortunate to be able to explore the world and have awesome adventures, but travel can be so much more than that. We want to delve deep, to help the local communities who welcome us into their countries, and to go home with amazing new experiences, new friends and a new perspective.
With that in mind, we travel as one awesome group, we all travel together, we volunteer together, we stay up late and wake up early together! We therefore can’t accept people for portions of the trip, come and enjoy the whole ride with us.
At our very core we want to make a meaningful difference in the places we visit, so we start every project from the ground up. Meaning, we speak directly with local businesses, schools, community leaders and work with local, reputable NGO’s to identify a legitimate need in the places we visit. This is crucially important to us and our travellers. Each project is hand crafted with the collaboration of the people and places that truly have a need.
We aren’t very tech savvy so thankfully it’s not rocket science. We extract all the names of the donators, take into account how many times they’ve donated, insert them into an online randomizer and voila – a name is generated. Winner!
No, you do not. Although you must come with a willingness to work, an openness for adventure and be ready for the experience of a lifetime!
Good Question. The internet is full of shysters. Fortunately, we aren’t one of them. You can check out our story in some of the most trusted publications on earth here and here as well as take a look at our past projects, listen to what our travelers have to say and read our blogs www.onestep4ward.com and www.smallworldtravels.com
Every dollar of your donation goes into creating a meaningful, lasting impact on a person’s life. Johnny, Josh nor any other admin takes a fee from your donation. Our trips promise to be the most unique and exhilarating thing you’ll have done in a long time, maybe ever? Full disclosure of how your money is spent here.
You can join one of our tours! Each ticket sold includes a donation, so you’ll be helping greatly by simply coming along.
If that doesn’t work out for you either, we are always looking for new and meaningful projects. If you or someone you know has a need or knows of a project we’d love to hear from you. Or if you have something of value to send to one of our current or past projects, please, send us an email and we can talk about it.
The project fee contributes to your fund-raising efforts to pay for all the work we do at our partner organizations. 100% of this amount goes to the project, we don’t take a single cent of it.
If you want to fundraise this portion of your trip with the help of friends, family, co- workers or whoever, we encourage you to do so!
Between 10 and 15 travelers in addition to Johnny and Josh. Making it a tightknit crew of people that you can really get to know and share the experience with. On some of our trips there is also a videographer, a local guide and a project coordinator making the total around 18-20.
Our travellers are from everywhere! We have had volunteers from every continent, and from over 15 different countries. The ages range from early 20’s to late 40’s, but age is just a number and if you’re up for adventure we don’t discriminate.
Yup, you do. Each traveller must have travel insurance before departing on a GiveBack GiveAway trip.
No, unfortunately the price of the trip does not include flights. We only provide a flight for the winner of the trip. You can check out the contest rules here.
Our trip style is unique, think adventure with a drop of comfort. That means we like to get our hands dirty, throw ourselves into wild and new experiences but at the end of the day we like to relax poolside with a cold beer. We’re cozy and rough around the edges at the same time.
The price of the trip includes all your accommodation, your transportation to and from the projects and throughout the tour. All breakfast are included.
Meals, Alcohol, and souvenirs and balloon tour over Bagan are not included.
You sure can! We know it’s a big expense so that’s why we offer payment in installments. We will need an initial deposit down of half the cost of the trip to secure your spot.
You are then able to make installment payments for your trip. Full payment for the tour must be made 50 days prior to the beginning of the trip.
We don’t want to see you go but understand that life happens. If you must cancel your trip the following conditions apply
If you cancel a trip:
